In this session we will study one of the most complex books of the Bible. The primary focus of the Books of Instruction is how God’s Chosen Nation, Israel, was to Worship Him, be Obedient to his Law. Develop a relationship between a Holy God and a Holy Nation, and to be Witnesses of the Supernatural Acts God performed for the well-being of His Nation.
The Message of Leviticus is one of Sanctification. It explains how people should live as a Holy people, grow spiritually, and continuously seek the purification of their sins. In Leviticus God’s covenant with Israel is implemented via an all-embracing System of Religious Services, Practices and Sacrifice, bringing into existence a divine document that dictates the boundaries of social Law. “GOD’S PRESENCE AMONG HIS PEOPLE”, was to be the very Purpose of their worship as a Nation. There are 3 Major Themes in Leviticus. The first theme is the creation of a Tabernacle allowing a Holy God to dwell among His people. The second them in Leviticus is a perfect “Picture of a Holy Nation Ruled by a Holy God”. The third theme is the Theocratic System where God is in completed Control. This Theocracy encompasses God’s Power, God’s Laws and God’s Sanctuary.
In Numbers we have a notable example of the difference between the “Story and Divine Message”. The story describes Israel traveling from Egypt to the Jordan River. They are challenged with the choice of BELIEVING in God’s Provision or not. Secondly, they must choose to OBEY all of God’s Commands and reap the rewards of their Obedience. The MESSAGE Identify’s Israel as God’s Chosen Nation. God promises blessings if they Obey His Laws and Worship Him as their only God. However, if they Disobey and Worship other gods, God’s wrath would be poured out among them. Throughout Numbers, we read of Israel’s Obedience and Rebellion, followed by Repentance and Blessings. In Numbers, God always reminds His people that He does not tolerate rebellion, disbelief and complaints. If Israel chose such behavior, there would be negative and harmful consequences.
In Deuteronomy the final of 3 Books of Instruction, God Repeats the Commandments of HIS Law and reminds Israel that they were to be Witnesses of His great power and provisions to their surrounding nations. Deuteronomy reminds the Israelites of God bountiful Love for them when they worship only Him and Obey His Laws. God makes it truly clear that the blessings and all the prosperity will be given to Israel as long they remain faithful to His teachings and obedient to His Laws. Israel is described as “God’s Wittiness’s who are to Bind His Testimony and Seal His Law”.
In summary, the Books of Instruction, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy describe of “A HOLY NATION…A FAITHFUL PRISTHOOD…AN OBEDIENT PEOPLE.WHO WORSHIP NO OTHER GOD..ARE FAITHFUL WITNESSES…AND WHO SEAL GOD’S LAW.”
